Microsoft chairman Bill Gates probably doesn't get behind the wheel of a Hyundai or Kia too often, but that won't stop him or his company from driving multimedia vehicle entertainment forward.


The University of Michigan will soon begin testing a crash-warning system that gathers critical data from multiple sources -- a step up from the devices currently offered in luxury vehicles. It could save thousands of lives a year, directors say.


Forget gas tax holidays. Chrysler LLC is offering buyers of most of its products an opportunity to lock in to $2.99 a gallon for three years.

The Auburn Hills automaker late Monday unveiled a program called "Let's Refuel America" which allows most Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep new vehicle buyers to sign up for a program that lowers the price of gasoline to below $3 a gallon at eligible gas stations using a gas card they get after registering their new vehicle purchase on a dedicated Web site or toll-free telephone number that Chrysler has set up.


First, the bad news -- BMW says the striking concept shown at the recent Villa d'Este concours in Italy is not destined for production. But...when Adrian van Hooydonk, the head of design for BMW automobiles, said, "The BMW M1 Homage clearly manifests the creativity and potential of the BMW Design team," and later added that "a project such as this is a valuable source of inspiration for our day-to-day work," well, maybe there is hope for a BMW supercar down the road.


A consensus seems to be forming around the Faster One, the bizarre creation of Swiss engineer Roman Weber and his Weber Sportcars: Wickedly fast -- but oh, so ugly!

Buick Lucerne Joins GM FlexFuel Lineup for 2009
The 2009 Buick Lucerne sedan will join General Motors' industry-leading lineup of flex-fuel vehicles that can run on either ordinary gasoline or E85, or any combination of the two, GM Vice President of Environment, Energy and Safety Policy Beth Lowery said Thursday.

The Lucerne, the first flex-fuel capable Buick passenger car, will be among more than 15 GM models with flex-fuel capability in 2009, up from 11 offerings this year.

The first GTI Pirelli was actually produced 25 years ago in 1983 and sold out its 10,500 units in six months. VW hopes to duplicate that success a quarter-century later with the new GTI Pirelli.

Coming to the U.K. only, the 2008 GTI Pirelli features an upgraded version of the 2.0-liter T-FSI engine that bumps the power from 200 to 230 horsepower. The difference reduces the GTI's 0-60-mph time from under 7.2 seconds to under 6.8 and takes the top speed from 146 to 152 mph.


United Auto Workers walked off the job at General Motors Corp.'s Delta Township plant when a 10 a.m. deadline passed with no deal on a local contract.

The walkout started at about 10:15 a.m. with dozens of vehicles streaming out of plant gates. Some workers picketed the plant with signs as passing motorists signaled support.


For all its modification-plotting prowess you'd think that some BMWs might flummox Hamann, or at least test its motorsport bearings. Such as the current M3, which in bog standard form is pretty much the real McCoy anyway.


Retail gas prices jumped to new highs this past weekend, reaching $3.33 a gallon, or 58 cents more than a year ago.

While those behind the wheels of fuel-sipping vehicles are likely driving (relatively) stress free, other motorists are feeling the pinch.


Certainly you've heard by now that there's a new Camaro coming next February. Now our friends at General Motors' High Performance Vehicle Operations team are back on one of their favorite haunts--the Nürburgring--with what looks to be a go-fast version of the new Camaro.


Honda Motor Co. is recalling 353,000 Accord sedans over possible corrosion in the windshield wiper motor.

Honda said Wednesday the recall involves Accords from the 2003 model year. The automaker says water could enter an area near the windshield wiper motor and cause corrosion.

The Oldsmobile rocket emblem may find its way onto new cars very soon. Though GM ended production of the Alero, Silhouette, and Bravada in 2004, sources say that the brand will be resurrected, but not in the way you might think.


Most mirages dissolve as you approach them; but this one can race away at 220mph. The Avro 720 Mirage Ford GT, the result of a collaboration between Brooklands-based supercar specialist Avro Motor Cars and Roush Technologies, is a limited-edition version of the Ford GT. A very limited edition in fact - only 10 cars will be produced, and the first has just emerged from Roush's Technical Centre in Brentwood, Essex.
