While in college driving my Camaro, the shift linkage started to get loose(LTR can attest to this). The main problem with this was that when I put it into park, the parking pawl would not engage, so the car would roll if on a slope. Since the ebrake never worked on that car (still doesnt) I had to cut my wheel when parking, but that was not always enough. So I began carrying a 3' length of 2x4 to use as a chock. It worked quite well. It fit between the driver's door and seat when moving, and when I parked, being so low to the ground, i was able to push it into place behind either the front or rear tire while still seated. Except for one instance when someone cleaning up the parking lot decided my chock was trash (I was luck to be withing 50' and saw it happen, it worked great until.i installed a new shifter and cable.

The cheap plastic bushings on my computer chair disintegrated many years ago. It's been using sway bar end link bushings from a mid 90s Accord for years now.

Uh, I never really fix anything on my cars so I don't have many hackjob stories there, but my first Camaro had no inner drivers door handle. I was too cheap to buy one so I just had some vise grips attached to the lock rods as my release.
