Project Another project Mazda

Yes ladies and gentlemen, I have finally decided that it's time to start working on my car. I have a pretty good excess amount of cash that I've built up to be used for something else *cough* honeymoon *cough* but since that's not happening, I decided to invest it in the only "love" I have right now... My 2006 Mazdaspeed6. I thought I would make this car a wee bit more fun than it already is now. Maybe some occasional track sections hopefully pitted against a certain Mustang Cobra or Mustang V6. Yes Lemming, I'm looking at you

Today I ordered a Forge Bypass Valve, AWR Rear Motor Mount, ProtegeGarage Short Ram Intake, and a ProtegeGarage Turbo inlet pipe. Total cost? Around $425 or so. Hopefully this all will be in by the end of the week so I can spend some time putting it on this weekend. Not sure what kind of gains I'll be seeing but I'll keep you informed via the butt dyno.

I have much more in store for this car. I've already compiled a starter list, if you will. Catback exhaust, new top mount intercooler and tubing, new sway bars, strut tower brace, upgraded brakes, retuned ECU, short shifter, and perhaps....PERHAPS either an upgraded stock turbo (KO4) or a GT turbo. We'll see though... Of course, I'll probably have to upgrade my fuel management system as well. Of course, this is all tentative and is subject to change. But until then, this is what I'll have.

I'll update this thread whenever I work on my car. At the moment, all I have are Denso IVT22 plugs and a drop-in K&N air filter.

I'm pretty excited about all this! This will be the first time I've ever undertaken something like this and really, quite honestly, spent money on something for myself without being hounded about it!

cool! do you have any plans for visual mods, like rims or anything of that sort, or are you planning on doing mostly performance-oriented stuff?

Make sure you get stronger hose clamps for the turbo system.

Well, you knew someone was going to say it...

There's a badgeless grill that I have found for my car that looks pretty sweet...

Might do a front lip. There's a really cheap and easy method that lots of the Mazdaspeed6 owners do that uses the weather stripping from garage doors that looks really good. But, I'm not sure about that yet since I have issues with scraping the front air dam... . Might repaint the calipers but I'm probably going to leave the OEM wheels on it at the moment.

i like the looks of that badgeless grill. a front lip would probably look great, too. would you really even be all that worried much about scraping it up, if you just made one out of weather stripping, though? i can't imagine it would be either too expensive or difficult to put together. plus, it might sort of eat some of the impact that your bumper would otherwise be taking -- win, win?

Yeah, I know. I mean, I'll probably end up doing it. I REALLY like the way it looks.

Observe... the HD (Home Depot) Front Lip

And I really like these wheels too...

That doesn't look bad, although the concept reminds me of ProjectFocusFast.

Also, you'd have an easy time catching the Slowbra.

On our way back from the beach, we were trying to decide where to eat dinner. At that moment, we were passed by a Rendezvous with the Ohio license plate "ASK GOD." So we did, and we ended up at some shitty Texas roadhouse-style place. Next time, I pick.--AchTTung

Hahaha. Yeah, I thought of that too. Maybe I should aim for the Turbostang?

AchTTung, if you want, I can get you the full resolution picture of that. I've got a few different angles from that night.
